The Centre for Disaster Mitigation & Management (CDMM), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, India and Geophysical Institute, the affiliate of the Vladikavkaz Scientific Centre,Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Vladikavkaz, Russia, Institute of Precision Mechanics, RAS, Saratov, Russia, Saratov Scientific Centre, RAS, Russia - jointly Organised a Virtual International Conference on “Natural Disasters and their Early Warning Systems (NEWS) 2020” during July 8-9th, 2020. The objective of the Conference aims at spreading awareness on different natural disasters, how it affects the local community and how best the early warning systems are helpful to safeguard the human life in such disasters.

The conference was attended by 400 participants and 15 keynote speakers from 22 countries: India, Russia, the United Kingdom, USA, Israel, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Slovakia, UAE, Singapore, Oman, Nepal, Algeria, Eucador, Tanzania, Peru, Italy, Africa and Pakistan. The conference inaugurated on 8th July 2020. Dr.G. P. Ganapathy, Professor and Director, Centre for Disaster Mitigation & Management (CDMM), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, India welcomed all the delegates and participants of the conference. He highlighted the importance of science and technology and its important role to play in reducing the risk of disasters, for example through improved weather forecasts.
